Gregg Popovich will be coaching Team USA in the 2021 Olympic Games. The five-time NBA champion had been named the coach of USA’s basketball team for 2017 to 2020 but the postponement of the Olympics will keep him on board at least for one more year.

“The commitments everyone made for 2020 are still there; we’re all-in and we’re committed,” USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo said per ESPN. “It’s important to deal with the unknowns and this virus. This too shall pass, and we’ll be back for everyone’s well-being.”

Popovich and Colangelo expected Team USA to be superstar-packed in the 2020 Olympics and the effort to defend its Olympic throne after finishing to a historic-worst seventh place in the 2019 World Cup. USA won the gold medal for three straight Olympics, 2008 through 2016. The IOC decided that the Olympics will be postponed in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
