Nizhny Novgorod bounced back in the fourth quarter and snatched an 80-78 home win against VEF Riga in Basketball Champions League. Nizhny improved to 4-3 compared to Riga’s 1-6 record in Group C.
Darrlyn Willis notched a double-double with 26 points and 12 rebounds but Brandon Brown stepped up with 22 points including 13 in the fourth quarter as well as the last four points to give his squad the win.
For Riga, Lester Medford logged 19 points and eight assists in addition to Arturs Kurucs’ 16 points.
Nizhny was ahead 21-16 after ten minutes and 41-37 halftime but Riga took off after the break and had a 69-61 advantage at the end of the third quarter. Nizhny quickly recovered as the game went down to the wire and eventually came out on top in a close finish.
