MHP Riesen got ahead in the battle of the quarter-finals in the first game against Bayern.

MHP Riesen edged FC Bayern Munich with an 87-83 victory and grabbed a valuable advantage for the second leg of the German League playoffs with a 28-18 fourth-quarter run that helped them cover the deficit and get away with the win.

Marcos Knight led the way for the winning side with a double-double of 17 points, 11 rebounds, while Hans Brase posted a team-high performance of 18 points.

Danilo Barthel stepped up for Bayern with 20 points, four points and four rebounds, TJ Bray followed with 12 points and five rebounds.

Game 2 between the two teams tips off Friday and Bayern will have to cover the -4 point loss to hope for a place further down the tournament.

Earlier in the day, Ulm crashed Fraport Skyliners with a 101-61 victory.
